چکیده

We present a method to compute the exact topology of a real algebraic surface S, implicitly given by a polynomial f ∈ Q[x,y,z] of arbitrary total degree N. Additionally, our analysis provides geometric information as it supports the computation of arbitrary precise samples of S including critical points. We compute a stratification ΩS of S into O(N5) nonsingular cells, including the complete adjacency information between these cells. This is done by a projection approach. We construct a special planar arrangement AS with fewer cells than a cad in the projection plane. Furthermore, our approach applies numerical and combinatorial methods to minimize costly symbolic computations. The algorithm handles all sorts of degeneracies without transforming the surface into a generic position. Based on ΩS we also compute a simplicial complex which is isotopic to S. A complete C++-implementation of the stratification algorithm is presented. It shows good performance for many well-known examples from algebraic geometry.

Geometric algorithms for algebraic curves and surfaces

This work presents novel geometric algorithms dealing with algebraic curves and surfaces of arbitrary degree. These algorithms are exact and complete – they return the mathematically true result for all input instances. Efficiency is achieved by cutting back expensive symbolic computation and favoring combinatorial and adaptive numerical methods instead, without spoiling exactness in the overal...

An Efficient Numerical Algorithm For Solving Linear Differential Equations of Arbitrary Order And Coefficients

Referring to one of the recent works of the authors, presented in~cite{differentialbpf}, for numerical solution of linear differential equations, an alternative scheme is proposed in this article to considerably improve the accuracy and efficiency. For this purpose, triangular functions as a set of orthogonal functions are used. By using a special representation of the vector forms of triangula...

“Equivalent Linear Composition” as an Efficient Stratification Factor in Multipurpose Surveys

Horticulture survey is a multi-purpose survey which is conducted ad hoc by Statistical Center of Iran (SCI). Availability of survey variables in the sampling frame suggests a multivariate stratification in each province based on its desired variables for acquiring a higher efficiency. There are several ways to stratify the sampling frame considering all stratification variables, such as using s...

Isotopic triangulation of a real algebraic surface

We present a new algorithm for computing the topology of a real algebraic surface S in a ball B, even in singular cases. We use algorithms for 2D and 3D algebraic curves and show how one can compute a topological complex equivalent to S, and even a simplicial complex isotopic to S by exploiting properties of the contour curve of S. The correctness proof of the algorithm is based on results from...
